The Senior Central Golf League was initiated in 1998 with 6 teams. The goal then, as now is to allow golfers over the age of 55 to play friendly matches against players from other clubs and to play courses other than their own.
Over the years there have been club changes with teams departing the league and new clubs joining.
As of 2026 the league consists of 14 teams where each club plays one match each season against each of the remaining teams.
